Having been a service technician for a small appliance sales and service business in Watertown, SD, at times it would take over 2 weeks to get out to a customers house just to diagnose the problem, to then have to wait another week or more for parts to arrive to repair it. You may have already experienced this. Regardless, It wasn’t uncommon for customers to be upset. Rightfully so, they were promised exceptional service and were not given it.

What I never understood is why these customers waited that long when they could simply call an independent appliance repair company, like Neighborhood Appliance Repair of Watertown, SD. Only when I started my own business in the Watertown area and started getting calls to repair appliances due to frustrated customers, did I learn it was because they either didn’t know they had other options in Watertown or they thought they had to use the place they purchased their appliances from to repair them.

Here are several facts & myths the servicing dealer won’t tell you…

  1. If you purchased your appliances from a sales and service appliance store, you have NO OBLIGATION to use their service department to get your appliances repaired. If you are frustrated of waiting weeks to get your appliances repaired you can simply call an independent repair company such as Neighborhood Appliance Repair of Watertown, SD.

  2. You will get better service from a local appliance repair business. A sales and service appliance businesses main focus is selling appliances to stay in business.  Regardless of what they promise, service will never be more important than selling. An independent appliance repair company stays in business by repairing appliances. Our job is to repair your appliances by providing exceptional service and gaining your trust. Our focus is getting your appliances repaired as quickly as possible or we won’t stay in business.

  3. Using an independent appliance repair company you are going to get a more experienced technician. Many of the sales & service appliance stores, at least the one I worked at in Watertown, aren’t factory trained, are given minimal training, and typically hire a “handyman” as there just aren’t many trained appliance repair technicians in the Watertown area. As an independent repair company, our business requires us to be knowledgeable and well trained. It’s what you expect as a customer when you call a business that only repairs appliances. You expect them to be experts and we have to be or we wouldn’t be in business.

  4. If you did purchase your appliances from a sales and service business, you have a 1 year manufacture warranty on almost all appliances. Within that 1 year time frame, it might be easier to have the place you purchased the appliance from repair it. It just makes the most sense. However, after the manufacture warranty expires, it truly makes more sense to hire an independent appliance repair company to do your repairs. Especially if you want exceptional service and reliable, knowledgeable and professional technicians.

  5.  When you use an independent appliance repair business we don’t get paid until we complete the job. Which is why as an appliance repair company, out goal is to complete as many repairs as we can in 1 visit. This means we have parts in stock to get you repaired quickly. Many appliance sales and service business have a lot of overhead and money tied up in appliance inventory. They understand selling of appliances, but they don’t understand how to run a service department, which parts to have on hand, or how to train technicians correctly.
This article isn’t designed to be a push against service departments, I’m sure there are many local appliance stores that offer incredible service. It’s important to understand that when your focus of staying in business is selling appliances, being number one in service is a losing battle in todays fast paced world. The next time you have an appliance issue, there is no need for long wait times, consider hiring Neighborhood Appliance Repair and lets get you back up and running.
